Job Description

The Principal Aquaculturist (PPS-9) is posted in the Punjab Fisheries Department, and the incumbent is to lead and manage aquaculture development projects associated with fish & shrimp farming at the senior level. It provides an opportunity for production planning, monitoring, and application of sustainable aquaculture practices such as hatchery, pond culture, water quality, disease control, and feed management. The incumbent serves as a technical manager for field teams, manages R&D, and is responsible for the efficient achievement of project goals and objectives within time frames. The role involves writing technical reports and liaising with government agencies and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory matters, and overseeing project funds and resources. Advanced knowledge of aquaculture systems, strong leadership skills, and experience in large-scale fisheries programmes are required to successfully address production, sustainability, and sector growth.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants for the post of Principal Aquaculturist (PPS-9) should have a PhD, MPhil, or a MSc (Hons) or equivalent degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Zoology, Marine Biology, or a related field from an HEC-recognized university. Applicants should have professional experience (8 to 10 years) in the development of aquaculture, fisheries, research, or at least 8 to 10 years of experience in working in large-scale aquaculture, shrimp farming projects, and experience in agricultural-based enterprises in this line shall be preferred. A good technical understanding of water quality, fish health, nutrition, and current aquaculture practice is required. In addition, applicants should be able to demonstrate a proven track record in leadership, project management, and report writing, and the capacity to liaise with government departments and other stakeholders. Experience in public sector project management & commitment to sustainable fisheries development are key attributes for this position, which also closely align with the mission of the Punjab Fisheries Department to enhance aquaculture production for food security.
